Holidays to Mexico

Home / Tours

Mexico is the only Latin American country located in North America. Sharing a border of over 3,000 km. with the USA has meant a strong influence from this country however there are still many areas where time has seemed to stand still and where the indigenous population still carry on their lives in the same way as their ancestors before them.

We do not arrange Mexican beach holidays at Guay – you can get those from hundreds of other tour operators. What we do offer is a unique opportunity to experience first hand the way of life in rural Mexico .

The majority of the population is of indigenous descent, including Olmec, Tectihuacan, Toltec and of course the famous Maya and Aztec

Mexico - ChacmoolThe Maya first emerged around 2600BC and many of their achievements surpassed those of any European civilization existing at the same time. They built better roads than the Romans, they were more scientifically advanced than the Greeks and their pyramids were equal to those of ancient Egypt . They also discovered chocolate!

The Aztecs came along centuries later and had no sooner established their city of Mexico - Traditional TribesmanTenochtitlan (now Mexico City ) than they were vanquished by the invading Spanish conquistadores. Sadly nearly all ancient written records were also destroyed but there are many amazing archaeological sites which bear witness to these once proud nations.

Wildlife is in abundance both along the coastal regions and in the rainforest. In the southeast you could combine a stay in the rainforest of Yucatán with a short course on Mayan language and culture. Alternatively you could go to the other extreme and stay in beach huts to observe whales rising at dawn in the northwest of this country. For those who want to get really involved in the lives of the communities, there is turtle-rearing and many agricultural projects, including organic chocolate farming. Chocoholics, what are you waiting for?!
