San Carlos de Bariloche is located high in the Andes in the lake district of Patagonia which straddles the border between Argentina and Chile.
Located 1,680 km (1000 miles) from Buenos Aires, Andean Patagonia is well known for its mountain range with its highest mountain, Mount Tronador, rising majestically to 3,554 metres. The region has abundant rain and snowfall so there are several rivers, waterfalls and lakes surrounded by thick forests of beech and pine trees. Here the beautiful Nahuel Huapi National Park covers 750,000 hectares.
It is an all year round resort, offering sports ranging from skiing in the winter to sailing in the summer. You can rock climb, abseil, go rafting or swimming. Of course to really appreciate the stunning scenery there are plenty of opportunities for trekking either on foot or on horseback with overnight stays in log cabins deep in the forest or on the lake shore. You can even take a boat trip across the lakes to Chile.
The amazing array of trees and flowers of the forests is matched by the breathtaking grandeur of the mountains and lakes. Stand beside a mystical glacier gouged from the rock millions of years ago and feel humbled. Discover cave paintings from civilizations dating thousands of years. Gaze at the night sky in awe at the Milky Way and so many brilliant stars there is scarcely space between.
Feel at one with nature and discover your soul!
